Spotlight on: Linda Carlyle and Joss Ferguson – UniMed Brisbane's new admin staff
Linda joined us as we completed renovations at UMB, which included the provision for a designated reception area. Her ease and skill with organisation and her ability to facilitate flow within a space, made Linda the perfect addition to support with setting up, decorating and organising both the reception and the waiting area space, bringing an understated elegance, style and functionality.
Her warm and beautifully open manner with people, her connection to and understanding of what UniMed Brisbane is all about, has made Linda a natural fit for the role she plays and the responsibility she has taken on in supporting practitioners and clients alike. She is a much loved and appreciated team member for whom nothing is too much trouble.
She reports loving the role, immensely enjoying welcoming clients and supporting them to feel comfortable, sharing moments in their lives and also being aware when someone is needing space for themselves.
Linda’s first career choice was as a primary school teacher but it was not to be her life's work; when it came time to raise a family, she became a full-time mother to three boys.
During her boys’ early school years when she wasn't managing the home and ferrying them to various extracurricular activities, she helped on school committees and worked part-time as a dance fitness instructor.
During her sons’ high school years, she had her first brief try at reception work but moved on quickly to work as a Relocation Consultant, re-settling families who had been transferred to Brisbane with their companies, assisting them to settle into a home and life in a new city.
It was a very satisfying job, supported by many years as a mother, while at the same time complementing a long-term interest in domestic interiors. More recently, Linda put this natural aptitude to good use and began to support others to create harmony and flow in their homes.
Linda worked in retail until her husband retired and they took the opportunity to downsize. During the ensuing few years, his health began to deteriorate and Linda nursed him at home for as long as was possible.
Life as a widow for the past three years has presented Linda with an opportunity to experience independence and to begin understanding herself much more deeply. She had found the teachings of Universal Medicine very influential and supportive during what was often a very stressful time and now considers The Way of the Livingness to be the foundation of her day-to-day life.
As the second addition to our UMB Reception team, all who have met Joss we’re sure would agree that this is a young man with maturity, poise and wisdom, fresh-faced and ageless at the same time – he is a delightful addition to the wider team.
He is currently studying Psychology at university and working at the men's clothing store Connor. He sees his life and working as a receptionist at UMB entwined with the same level of care and respect for those around him. He approached UMB with the feeling of wanting to be a part of the building, the people and the quality that he feels is there.
He comments that “working at UMB isn't work, it is having the opportunity to offer the clinic everything I bring with me while receiving an immense healing from the clinic itself. I find the joy that is felt in and around this building
to be spectacular and a welcome responsibility to be apart of it all.”
He goes on to say “I love being of service in this role. I enjoy welcoming people to the clinic, making them feel comfortable in its serene environment, sharing moments of their daily lives or being sensitive in providing whatever support is required. I appreciate being given the opportunity to bring my warmth and understanding, supporting the practitioners to offer the amazing level of service and love they are known for. I truly appreciate the opportunity I have been given.” We’re sure you’ll be hearing a lot more from this young man in times to come.
We truly appreciate both Linda & Joss for the qualities they bring, and for their dedication to the exceptional standard of integrity and care that makes UniMed Brisbane what it is for all who visit.
