Spotlight on: Jennifer Ellis – UniMed Brisbane Practitioner
Introducing our very gorgeous Jennifer Ellis to the Spotlight in this, our first article. Jennifer is one of the foundational members of UniMed Brisbane and a key part of the practitioner team that has operated from this beautiful historic building for the past 6 years. Having raised a son who has now moved away to study at University, she finds herself in the full swing of a life dedicated to supporting others in their health and wellbeing.
With over 25 years experience working in complementary medicine, Jennifer is a qualified naturopath, and acupuncturist (non-practising) and has spent many years honing her current understanding and skills through studies with Universal Medicine. She has by popular demand become focussed in the arena of woman’s health and wellbeing and enjoys a close working relationship with Esoteric Women’s Health, collaborating with many like-minded, dedicated medical and other health professionals to deliver projects, workshops, presentations and much more, all supporting women in their day to day lives. Question: What motivates you to devote your life to supporting people in their health and wellbeing? Jennifer: Since I was young I was interested in health and wellbeing, preferring sport and healthy food to other pursuits. When I first came across naturopathy I was thrilled, and did well because I found it so fascinating. After working in the field however for about 15years I ended up burnt out and disillusioned, and pretty much retired myself for a number of years to raise my son and look for another career-direction. It was during this time I came across Serge Benhayon and later Universal Medicine and through this, for the first time in many years managed to restore my own health fully. What was more significant to your question though is that I learnt and understood an approach that not only allowed me to stay feeling fantastic, but the results I saw in clients were also astounding, well beyond anything l’d seen before. There was no question from here of how to move forward, and I gradually came to understand my own underlying love of supporting others without the accompanying need to fix them. |
Essentially I learnt what responsibility in healthcare meant, not just for the client, but for me as the practitioner. I learnt to live in a way that supported this, in line with my own natural rhythms, which has meant that essentially every aspect of my life has changed (for the better) and I now work at least twice as hard as before, without ever feeling exhausted. The Esoteric Modalities I learnt through Universal Medicine provided the gateway for the huge change I went through and have been pivotal in being able to offer the same for clients.
Q: Describe your usual day? Elaborate on how you handle the challenges of everyday living? Jennifer: Ok you asked! My day starts around 4am usually and on several days begins with an online meeting, collaborating with others on any one of several projects I am involved with. If not a meeting the next couple of hours is spent writing, answering emails or enjoying the company of my gorgeous partner before going for a walk. Clinic work for me starts at 7am and can extend throughout the day till 6pm, with a couple of hours break in the middle to attend to household or personal things. Evenings revolve around a meal with other household members where we will generally connect, that may involve debriefing the day, where we are up to in life or what needs addressing with regards clinic or household matters. The last part of my day is more personal, finishing off loose ends from the day, answering emails or appointment requests and having some time to connect and interact with my partner. Life is very busy for me, but not in a hectic way and this brings me to answer the second part of your question. I have to say for starters that I don’t find everyday living too challenging anymore – keeping a balance between working long hours and resting well is an area I have to watch, but essentially it is through the rhythm I have every day for looking after myself that I find a steadiness, and that allows my energy to stay even without needing coffee or tea or other stimulants like sugar like I used to need to get through. Q: What is it that you love about your work at UniMed Brisbane? Jennifer: A shorter answer would be to the question what don’t I love about my work here… I can’t imagine a better job and while I do love the current building we are in, it is not so much the place, as the energy of the people who collectively make this possible. In that sense we are talking about a much larger number of people than anybody sees when they visit, particularly the clinic. Behind the scenes many people contribute to UniMed Brisbane even being here, let alone being what it is for those who use the services available. It is an example of true community work, for no self-gain, and that is probably my greatest enjoyment, to be part of something so significant and so true in what it offers everyday people. I love what I do, every bit of it, but I also love being part of something so much bigger than my own business, which is essentially how it runs here. Each practitioner is an independent business, and all other contributors have their own job, family, life etc outside of their support here. But everyone works together to provide the same level of care and service for each client. That is the necessary future of healthcare as I see it, collaborative, client-focussed and without personal agendas. The results I see every day certainly bears testimony to the fact that this sort of responsible approach amongst practitioners is very needed. |
